New publication out on the modeling of martensite formation and hardening behavior of TRIP material

The metastable austenitic stainless steel 1.4301 transforms from austenite to martensite at temperatures below 100°C during plastic deformation. The formed martensite leads to a higher hardening of the material, which is known as the TRIP (Transformation-Induced Plasticity) effect.
In addition to a comprehensive correction procedure for the experimental measurements of martensite evolution, accurately representing this transformation and the resulting hardening in the model is crucial. The introduction of a non-linear mixing rule between austenitic and martensitic hardening components improved the representation of hardening by 35%.
